Pervy perv walks

By Cashier - 09/03/2011 05:36 - Canada

Today, I was at work as a grocery store cashier. I felt a hand slap my ass. Turning around I saw an old man winking at me and I screamed. When my manager came to deal with the problem she didn't believe me and gave the man a $25 gift card for "the trouble" I caused. FML

What a creep! ******* managers always siding with customers. The customer is not always right!

It's easy for him to get away with it since he probably didn't even remember doing anything by the time the manager walked over.

Really? You scream because he slapped you ass? Jesus. get a grip.

Have you heard of Hollaback? When sexual harassment like having your butt smacked by Creepy McGrabbyhands did, you report it on their site or via their free app. You can even take a pic of the dude if you want. Each story gets added to a map to track occurrences. Cool, huh?

Yes! Do this! I tried to post a link to Hollaback but I guess it didn't work. I also feel like half the commenters on this page need to go to the Hollaback site and get educated, especially about these myths: + It’s only a harmless compliment/flirting. + That’s just how men are. Deal with it. + We secretly enjoy harassment. + Anyone who complains about harassment is a man-hating, bra-burning psychofeminazi who hates freedom/needs a boyfriend/needs sex to loosen up/ugly. + As long at it’s not violent, it’s not harmful. If you believe any of these things, please google Hollaback.

@84 Also:+Nice Girls Don't Make A Scene OP ABSOLUTELY needed to draw attention to Douchey McPervert and the situation at hand. Too many girls are quiet when this stuff happens because they don't want to be Rude, when in fact the perv was rude first by grabbing her ass. OP did not overreact, and I'm glad I finally found a reasonable person on this thread.

I'm not sure uploading someone's picture on the internet against their will is legal. Yes, he is sexually harrassing you, but sexual harrassment does not give permission to commit other crimes against the guy- I'm talking of these sort of things as the FML of course, not actual known sex offenders. Other than the picture thing, the site sounds like a good idea.

Actually, from what I understand, at least in the US, if you are in a public place where there isn't a reasonable expectation of privacy, then it is legal to take a picture of someone for no profit purposes, obviously using common sense, no inappropriate pictures ect. But I'm not a lawyer, so do your own research. And I'm pretty sure sexually harassing someone trumps getting your picture taken. and your ass getting called out for assaulting women. Another example of our society's idiotic insistence that we protect the criminal and the violator from the consequences of their actions to the detriment of the victim because omg they have rights!

It doesn't "trump" getting your picture taken. Are you 5 years old? Like I said, you can't commit crimes against a criminal because he is one- and guess what, they do have rights. You can't strip someone of their rights because they committed a crime (I am now talking general, not specifically sexual harrassment). THIS is what's wrong with society, people thinking like you- you do not get the right to commit a crime against someone because they did. This makes you just the same as them. You can't murder a murderer, you can't rape a rapist- How would that make you any better than them? Not to even mention the fact that there are so many people wrongfully accused, who spend their lives in jail, or worse, executed for no reason. Do you think it right that their rights be stripped as well?

I believe that person is right though. In the U.S., as long as you are in a public place, you can take a picture of anyone you want. There is no reasonable expectation of privacy in a public place. It is actually even legal to sell those photos without that person's permission. It isn't a crime. If it was there would be a lot of magazines and newspapers out of business.

Privacy only covers stuff you aren't already allowing the rest of the world to see. So if you are standing in the middle of a grocery store you are already allowing everyone in that grocery store to see you and therefore there is no right to privacy.

That might be right, as I had said in my first message, I don't know if it's legal or not, but that is also wasn't what I was talking about at all on my second message.

You work at a grocery store? Pull the damn tape. Then if you get the footage, go right over your managers head. She obviously is incompetent.

Sounds like a typical grocery store to me. I work at one, and they will do anything not to lose the customer, even supporting them when they do something blatantly wrong like verbally harassing employees. Any kind of dispute over an item ending in the customer cursing at the cashier usually ends in the manager coming over and giving that customer the item for free and telling them to have a nice day. I'm not surprised by this FML at all... OP get a new job or get used to people mistreating you and getting away with it..

What a sleezy old fart!!! Ugh men! Hate them!

What the man did was inappropriate for sure, and I don't mean to defend him in any way, but don't you think screaming is a bit of a childish way to react? If you're old enough to have a job you ought to be old enough not to scream when this kind of thing happens. Grown ups talk about their problems to solve them.

I've said this before but I say it again, I think it was more of a startled scream than a full on my life is in danger scream. The kind of scream you don't consciously intend to do but that just kind of happens. They are both shrill and draw attention but a startled scream is generally short, clipped, and as I said, done without thought.
