Running on empty

Today, at soccer, I repeatedly asked my coach for water as I was feeling light headed. His response every time was, "Five more minutes". Eventually, I got so dehydrated that I passed out. The first thing my coach said when I woke up was, "Why didn't you get some water?" FML

I can't stand people like that. Next time just do whatever you gotta do so that you're alright even if he gives you heck of it.

I was in band camp last year and the same thing happened. However, thanks to me we get 10 minute water breaks now. I guess that's good? :D

you are responsible for your body, not your idiot coach

This is why schools need athletic trainers. Even coaches who know better have a conflict of interest.

I feel like making more accounts to give this awful post the amount of downvotes it deserves.

Lay back, close your eyes, and mumble "5 more minutes."

how do you change the coach? ha, maybe you can report him/her or something but I don't think there's anything more you can do.

The FML doesn't specify if OP told the coach he is feeling light headed when he asked for water. It's hard to believe the coach won't let him drink if he's feeling light headed, so I think this one is OP's fault for just asking for water and not specifying why. YDI

No, actually, the fault lies on the coach - if someone is asking for water, you give them some damn water! The only consequence to staying too hydrated is bathroom breaks and that's better than dehydration by far! It's just the stupid notion that if you aren't suffering, you're too pampered.

OP shouldn't have to ask for water several times. Even if OP just wanted to get water just because he was thirsty, the coach should have allowed it. Not to mention that the weather channel says it is 90 in North Carolina and exercising in the heat can dehydrate someone quickly and even kill them.

21, on top of that, coaches should pay attention to their athletes and be able to notice when faces are ashen and/or breathing is really labored. A productive training session requires everyone completing drills and taking breaks together, but all these stories of coaches/teachers refusing people water upon request indicates that most don't LOOK carefully enough at their students or don't know how to identify certain signs. No bueno.

your coach needs hell lot of coaching..and you better know what will be the protocall next time ;)

The question is, why is he allowed to coach

He just said that to cover his ass. He knows exactly why you didn't get water.
