Running on empty

Today, at soccer, I repeatedly asked my coach for water as I was feeling light headed. His response every time was, "Five more minutes". Eventually, I got so dehydrated that I passed out. The first thing my coach said when I woke up was, "Why didn't you get some water?" FML

I can't stand people like that. Next time just do whatever you gotta do so that you're alright even if he gives you heck of it.

I was in band camp last year and the same thing happened. However, thanks to me we get 10 minute water breaks now. I guess that's good? :D

FYI it's illegal for any coach to disallow a player access or acceptance of water. People can sue for it.

Shit OP I know how you feel. My hurling team does a drill literally called suicide and you have to do it at full sprint and you don't get any sort of break until you do it a total of 20 times in a row. If you pass out, when you come to he'll ****** have the audacity to ask you why did you not get water. It ******* pisses me off because he won't even allow you to stop so you can use your inhaler, and y'know not have a full on asthma attack.

I can't work out how to get to your profile cos I'm a plonker, but high five for the flag :D

Trans and proud. Oh and you just tap on the flag if you're on mobile.

Hey as a coach I recommend drinking water steadily at your own pace throughout the night and day before training, and bringing an electrolyte drink to the field. Stamina is an important thing to build and in field games you can't just nip off to get a drink. However preventative hydration for suicide-type drills is important, as drinking a lot of water too quickly right afterwards can cause cramping and discomfort. I don't know how many meters you're sprinting in your suicides or if you're touching the ground between changing direction, but 20 repetitions (I'm assuming it's something like 5 back-and-forth sprints done four times, I'm terribly sorry if I am wrong) is not that horrible if you have built up the endurance during the season...which your coach should've been guiding.

It's 180 meters long. You run 30 meters then run back; then you run 40 meters, but you pick up the ball at the 30 meter mark and hit it on the 40; you then run 40 meters back and run 50 meters, catching the ball (as it is thrown high into the air) at the 40 meter mark and hit it on the 50; and you run 50 meters back. You do that 20 times. We run about 4.8km. It's exhausting and dangerous because I have asthma and you can't just use your inhaler whilst running because you have a helmet on with metal bars at the front to protect your face from the ball.

something like that happened to me once. I was in gym and i felt like i had to throw up so i asked my gym teacher if i could go to the nurse. she told me to wait until she finished explaining the game. i threw up a lot within the next ten seconds and she asked me why i didn't tell her i felt like i was gonna throw up

You can't just change the coach, especially if the season will be starting in a few weeks, or has started already.

This is an important life lesson for you. People will rarely take any responsibility for their actions when they hurt other people. Next time: do NOT ask for permission to get water. Just go get it. Look out for yourself because nobody else will. YDI, but worth the life-lesson.

Once you need to drink water, your already dehydrated. Your coach is an idiot...

Why? The coach should be mature enough to take responsibility for pushing a player to the point of health endangerment. It's his damn responsibility. But no, more and more coaches nowadays are entitled dipshits who get a kick out of having power over other people.
