Running on empty

Today, at soccer, I repeatedly asked my coach for water as I was feeling light headed. His response every time was, "Five more minutes". Eventually, I got so dehydrated that I passed out. The first thing my coach said when I woke up was, "Why didn't you get some water?" FML

I can't stand people like that. Next time just do whatever you gotta do so that you're alright even if he gives you heck of it.

I was in band camp last year and the same thing happened. However, thanks to me we get 10 minute water breaks now. I guess that's good? :D

I have no clue where coaches got the idea that drinking water is a sign of weakness. Maybe we need to hire people with a basic knowledge of biology, exercise, fitness, or nutrition to be in charge of having kids work out? But that's a dangerous slope, next you'll expect doctors know about medicine.

Jeez, some people! D: Is there perhaps somebody that you can report this to? I understand that you might not want to upset your coach though :/ Hope that he treats you and the rest of the team better next time!

Why do you need to ask to get water? I've never had to do that on a sports team. We always bring our own water and have it near us when we're off.

Probably trying to avoid a lawsuit

I won't give you a YDI, however at that point you need to stop being polite or respectful or whatever stopped you from taking action, and go get some water for heaven's sake!

Or you could suck it up and not be a bitch about it.

At that point punch him in the throat

Next time just go get some water. It easier to ask for forgiveness then for permission.

I had a riding lesson today and it was 80+ degrees out. Lessons are an hour and a half, and about halfway through, my coach went into the barn and brought us all our water. Your coach is an asshole.

Ugh, that sucks. I've been in an all too familiar situation. We had to parade in 100+ degree weather in marching band & everyone was in long sleeves/pants with heavy duty material. People were falling out like flies. Eventually, I ended up almost completely blacking out while not being able to breathe and had to be helped by police that were stationed nearby. Long story short, band director rang my phone afterwards to lecture me about "proper communication in emergencies" because I didn't go up to him/his 'helpers' personally and alert them before I fainted. Health > Performance. Always.
