Sick ride, dude

Today, my parents said that they bought me a car. I had been begging for one for a year and they always said that I would have to pay for it myself. I got really excited and went to the garage to see my new ride. It was a Hot Wheels car with a note saying, "Save your money". FML

:-) That's basically what my family did to my brother, only we used a model BMW. You kind of deserve that - car's aren't toys and they are expensive to buy and worse to insure. Get a job and pay for it yourself. Best of luck!

I wouldn't mind getting Hot Wheels cars...

YDI for begging for it. They don't owe it to you. People spouting "buy your own car", you can't assume that she makes enough money to buy ANYTHING. The only reason I got one was because I was taking all AP classes and hardly had enough time to eat. Not everything is as black and white as you seem to think it is.

I would start using it everywhere I went. Their sarcastic "joke" was hurtful and unkind.

#5, you have never stopped to consider a parent's point of view, have you? It's not an FML, it's normal for a person to buy their own first car and that's how it should be. Even making minimum wage (assuming your state has a minimum wage law) it is affordable to get a decent car and pay for insurance.

I'd say it's a pretty good life lesson. Just because you beg and plead for a year doesn't mean you'll get something. Accept it, get a job, save your money and buy one yourself if you want it so badly.

Save your pennies, and buy a nicer car than theirs, and don't let them touch it.

Don't beg. Wait patiently and, in your case, save money. Then you can get your lime green mambo

Smart parents. Parents SHOULD NOT buy they're kids cars. I'm saving for mine. If it's a gift you take it for granted, you should have to earn it.

Totally agree with the buy your own car sentiment here... But if kids weren't spoiled and raised to feel entitled to get a car by their parents there wouldn't be whiny 16 year olds expecting cars from mommy and daddy. I never expected my parents to buy me a car or just hand everything to me. But I was raised to appreciate the value of a dollar and how hard my parents worked to provide for our family. Blame the parents.
