Today, my parents said that they bought me a car. I had been begging for one for a year and they always said that I would have to pay for it myself. I got really excited and went to the garage to see my new ride. It was a Hot Wheels car with a note saying, "Save your money". FML

Today, after selling their car, my parents decided to inform me that my car (that I paid for myself) is now going to be the "Family Car". They also informed me that since it is, after all, my car, I'll still have to pay for the gas and maintenance. FML

Today, I bought my son a nice car for his 18th birthday. When I gave it to him, he just got mad and told me that if I really wanted to spend that much money on him, I should've used it to help him pay for college. FML

Today, while talking to my parents about my car, my dad said, "Don't put a lot of money into it because we will give you ours when we move." I asked why, and my mom responded, "Well, we helped your sister with her wedding, so this is going to be your wedding gift." I'm getting a car out of pity for not having a wife. FML

Today, I got woken up by my parents telling me I had to go buy a car so they could have transportation. Neither of their cars work, so I was letting them use mine, and then they wrecked it. It needs nearly a thousand bucks in repairs to be drivable again, but since it was my car, I have to replace it now to appease them. FML

Today, was my 16th birthday and I was supposed to be surprised with a new car. I have overheard my parents talking about bringing it home tonight while I was at a friend's house. We snuck back to my house to see them bring my car home. All I saw was my Dad crash my new car into a street lamp. FML

:-) That's basically what my family did to my brother, only we used a model BMW. You kind of deserve that - car's aren't toys and they are expensive to buy and worse to insure. Get a job and pay for it yourself. Best of luck!

how old are you...16? your parents are smart wait till you get to college and have to buy everything for yourself you'll learn to pay 50 cents to ride the bus. a car is the last thing on your mind...unless you like driving more than eating

#5: Totally agree. "Be nice to your kids - they choose your nursing home." #10: That'd probably work. Then again, parents could call the OP's bluff on that one. #37: If the parents cut off everything at 18, the kid will reciprocate in kind and cut off the parents in their time of need, if any should arise. #119: HAHAHAHA, YES. To everyone who replied to this saying "I'm gonna do that to my kid": None of you deserve kids, period. It's one thing not to give a kid a car, yes it's a shame that kids have such entitlement complexes. On the other hand, any parent who actually crushes their kid's hopes by doing this should be required to give their kid a car (more valuable than the one they themselves are currently driving) on principle alone.
