Today, I went on a date, the first one I've been on since my last boyfriend broke up with me 6 months ago. We were at a restaurant, and at the end of meal he insisted on paying the bill. He wanted to leave a 15% tip but couldn't work out in his head how much to leave. The bill was for £100. FML

That isn't that bad. Atleast he wasn't making you pay :)

be glad someone spent $100 on a first date for you, when it's just a dinner.

so he's not good at math, he's also your first date in 6 months, princess.

you deserve it for having a thornbush up your vag. give him a break, sheesh!

where did she specifically bitch that he paid the bill?

Why do so many people think you deserved this? He is obviously an idiot you won't go out with again. Geez it was a first date...

sounds like a keeper :) good luck.

After staring at this FML for over five mintues I eventually worked out why it should have been so easy. But I'm still not certain if I got it right... It doesn't make someone stupid if they can't work it out. Some people (like me) are not very mathamatically minded. He may have been nervous -- seeing as it WAS the first date. Or it could have been a mental blank. Don't be so harsh. If that's the worst thing you can think of I'd say he sounds like a lovely guy.

It should have been easy because percentages are out of 100%, and therefore if the bill is £100, the amount of tip is the same as the % you want to give (It's 15 btw)

is 15% of £100 the same as 15% of $100 since £100 is $160? Does that make sense? For the record, 15% of 100 is 15, to prove I'm not that dumb.

Really? Not that dumb? 15% of 100 is 15 never mind if its £ or $. It's not as if the guy decided to convert it into dollars and then work out the percentage.

Yes, 15% of £100 is £15, just as 15% of $100 would be $15. The reason the £/$ difference is being pointed out is for people who are saying $100 is a lot for a meal, when it's in fact the equivalent of US$160 that the meal cost, so it's even MORE expensive than they think it is.
