So hot

Today, the AC broke in the kitchen of the restaurant I work at. Temperatures reached over 100 degrees and one of my coworkers nearly passed out. Our boss accused us of being "dramatic" and only let us step out after I collapsed. I need this job too badly to quit. FML

Hope it's fixed soon :( regulated kitchens are bad enough! But even if it is fixed soon you should still look for another job because your employer just showed that he doesn't respect you guys or think of your well being

Assuming it's a chain restaurant, file a complaint to someone higher up than your boss. Whether it be about your boss' behavior or just asking for the AC to be fixed, no one should have to work under those conditions. Best of luck OP.

If your boss is acting like that, talking to him/her won't help. I understand needing to work too badly to quit all too well, OP, but you've got to get out of there. Put your resume out, and get another job as soon as possible.

I feel you mate, I had a day in the kitchen I used to work at reach about 40 degrees C (about 104 F) and we weren't allowed breaks at all, it completely sucked

I misread that as "1000 degrees" and I was like, goddamn, how is he still alive

So many horror stories about work in what I assume is the US. With respect to this particular story, in New Zealand (and at my work) we all go home if it gets to 30°C (86°F), there's no way we would either a) be expected to work in those conditions or b) accept those conditions. There would be SERIOUS consequences if one of us passed out at work.

In my old kitchen it got so hot people DID pass out some days. Luckily they were allowed to go out for a cup of water etc.

Tie him to a chair in the kitchen so he know how hot it is.

Can't you guys just pop into the fridge/freezer every once in a while In Australia the whole restaurant can get up to 40degeees Celsius so as a cook we just pop in and out of the fridge

100 degrees? Drink water and you'll be fine. I work in temperatures averaging 115 helping protect your right to complain about the inconvenience of working in just over 100 degrees.
