I'm Canadian, and it's perfectly okay and normal to mourn the death of a pet, they're like family to us. if something like this happened with one of my cats I'd feel like some horrible murderer. :(

232 - I think people like you are just one of many reasons why there are so many who value animals over most humans.

Here's a suggestion, go out and get a pet and love it like family for many years. Then make one mistake and tragically lose your beloved pet. Maybe then you will learn some empathy.

A person like them never will learn empathy.

dear #292, I have a lot of empathy, that's why I wrote the comment. I am from India, where there is a lot of poverty so when people say things like "this is the sadest thing I have read" it breaks my heart because people are suffering in the real world. For all the cat and dog lovers, you love these animals because of your own selfishness. animals should not be domesticated instead they should live free. plus how many here are vegans, I mean isn't it hypocrisy to eat one and love one based in your convenience

I understand what you are saying, #302. Although, I think that perhaps it was the way you worded your first comment. I am vegan, and have suffered and lived in poverty and in homelessness. Living outside, eating what I can find, and freezing in the winter. though our suffering is most likely much different, one who suffers understands. I also have a cat. A cat who came to me in very bad shape and on the verge of death. She had, and still has the choice to stay or go. No animal should be held in captivity against their own will. This is why I protest against zoos and other similar places. Although, some animals and people form an amazing bond that defies nature, and is indescribable. Yes. It is hypocrisy to love one and eat one based on one's own convenience.
