Stickler

Today, I got stopped by the fuzz. The officer told me he "could care less" about my excuses. He was probably about to let me go without a ticket, but my inner Grammar Nazi kicked in and I explained why he meant to say "couldn't care less." I got the ticket. FML

Sometimes you just got to force it down. Sorry about the ticket.

People get pissy at me all the time because I'm a grammar nazi... Actually a grammar soviet, but whatever. Sorry about the ticket.

...When was the last time I heard the fuzz.

When, in fact, it works both ways. He meant it was physically possible for him to give less *****, but he was feeling generous and gave you a couple anyway.

Techinally, the cop was right in how he said it. "Couldn't care less" has been used so much though that it's now preceived as correct. The modern term and use of the word has taken over the actually meaning. Like "irragardless" even though it, in fact, isn't the correct word.

Pretty sure both ‘could’ and ‘couldn’t’ are acceptable in that situation.
