Stickler

Today, I got stopped by the fuzz. The officer told me he "could care less" about my excuses. He was probably about to let me go without a ticket, but my inner Grammar Nazi kicked in and I explained why he meant to say "couldn't care less." I got the ticket. FML

Sometimes you just got to force it down. Sorry about the ticket.

Being a member of the grammar police myself - don't call yourself a Nazi; there's no comparison - I understand the inclination. But, seriously, you have to put a lid on it when you're pulled over by the police. YDI

The reason why people say Grammar Nazi is because of the force put into enforcing grammar upon other people.

You aren't forced to flee your home and sentenced to death in a torturous manner..

OhDearBetrayal 25

49- Obviously, it's just a loose comparison.

abceasyas123abc 12

There's actually no comparison. It's just one of those senseless utterances, like "I could care less".

OhDearBetrayal 25

I would say it's more like the phrase "so hungry I could eat a horse." A person couldn't possibly eat an entire horse, but the language is used to empathize the hunger, much like the term Grammer Nazi is used to empathize the persistence and lack of indifference towards correcting grammatical errors.

Well, this is more than a bit embarrassing. Emphasize**

I'm the only one who gasses those with poor grammar?

Are you kidding me? Are you really giving me thumbs down because you prefer the word nazi? Wow. If I didn't think you people were all morons before, I do now. It's a hideous term, with tons of meaning behind it. To be compared to a nazi is disgusting. Show some respect for what people have endured. I don't take the holocaust lightly and those who do are clearly uneducated, unsophisticated, and unsympathetic to the horror and suffering put upon millions of people by nazis. Hardly comparable to a person correcting others' grammar.

#13, Absolutely. "Nazi" should only used with "soup." ;)

I'd have done it too, I'm not even American and that phrase annoys me...

redmane 21

That phrase isn't just American...

saying it as 'could care less' is American. Everywhere else says it as 'couldn't care less'.

Idk why but your comment made me lol

67- if so, all you have to do is thumb it up, no need to tell them. (don't worry, I did it for you)

This is so not the opportune moment for you to play English teacher...

You deserved it, but I admit that I would have done the same thing.

Nah, you probably would have gotten the ticket anyway. Especially since he did say he didn't care about your excuses. Look on the brighter side, you taught him the correct way to say that expression and hopefully will continue from that day forward.(: Your work is done. ***On a side note: slow down if you were speeding. : P

You're a ******* idiot, I'd hate to know you.

No need to be so harsh. Jeez...

You should get some Imodium for your diahrrea of the mouth. Save your grammar tyranny for when you are on here commenting. YDI.

Even though correcting someones grammar during a situation like that, I still decided on putting FYL, because, as someone who hates bad grammar myself(Although, mine is probably worse than the majority of Grammar Nazis), I kind of empathize.

*Even though correcting someones grammar during a situation like that is probably not the best option, Wow I feel like an idiot.

*Even though YOU ARE correcting someone's grammar, it is probably not the best option during such a situation.
