Well would you let a strong-looking young man sit down without knowing he had heart problems? Just because people are old does not mean they are way more entitled than younger people. They already lived a long life, which is a gift all in its own. Some people die in their thirties, some die when they are just a child. Young people deserve to be respected as well, they are the future. If young people have to respect old people than old people should respect young people.

Personally, I would have found her even cuter if she called me a sucker. Of course I always get up to offer my seat to someone who is elderly anyway.

Um, no he's not an idiot. OP, as soon as he saw an elderly woman standing, should have stood up and offered his seat. It's the courteous and respectful thing to do. People these days are so selfish and self-absorbed, all they care about is themselves and their own comfort. It's just outright rude to be a vibrant young healthy person and have an elderly woman standing. OP you suck and that old lady is awesome! (btw I'm 23 in case you were wondering)
