All I can say is why? If they tossed it it's their responsibility to retrieve it. Customer service or not - there's a point.
Time to take out more trash. Namely the brat and her father.
Rich people... Some of them are ok but people like that are complete assholes
How do you know they're rich and what did they do that made them seem like assholes? The hotel ****** up and op had to pay for a mistake that they didn't make, but they family isn't in the wrong.
I'm more inclined to think the family wasn't rich. If they were rich, losing a probably $20 pair of shorts wouldn't be a big deal. But when I was young, I was expected to make a pair of swim shorts last for a good 4 or 5 years, until I absolutely couldn't fit into them anymore. I would have felt awful to know I'd be making my parents have to spend another $20 on me when that didn't need to happen, so I'd have been really upset and probably crying like a "brat". My dad's always been unfortunately difficult to employees, so I can see him pushing back until someone working for the hotel got me back my shorts. It's very easy to see a less well-off family act accordingly in this situation.
And why didn't the cleaning staff have to dig through the trash to find them since they were the ones who threw them out?
Erm, if this kid was spoiled then some shorts thrown away wouldn't be a big deal and they'd just buy more. Sounds more like they couldn't afford to lose clothes.
I totally understand the guest family wanting their clothes back. Why should anybody else decide if the item should be thrown away? Hotel sucks for making you do the dumpster diving instead of the person who actually is at fault.
How is she a brat for wanting a pair of shorts back that accidentally got thrown away? The person who tossed it should have looked for them.
I once tried to throw away an item of clothing at a hotel, and when I came back to my room later, housekeeping had removed it from the trash before emptying the trash. Now I understand why.
The cleaning staff should be the ones digging for the shorts they threw away. But come on, that's definitely a spoiled brat - just get a new pair of shorts. They aren't expensive, and who'd want shorts that had been thrown in the dumpster, even if they got washed afterward?
They're shorts. Unless they're gold lined, the hotel should have just reimbursed them.

So, let me get this straight: the cleaning staff threw out this kid's shorts, which sucks, but I guess accidents happen? I can't really picture how one can "accidentally" throw out something as large as a pair of shorts, but whatever. The kid, understandably, wants their shorts back. Somehow, this makes them a spoiled brat? It sucks that you have to fix someone else's mistake, but I don't see why the kid or the Dad are the villians here.
Surely you could have asked your boss if you could have showered? Logically if you're gross and smell you aren't making a good impression for the hotel...
