Today, it was my birthday. I have been heavily hinting that I want an iPhone. I opened my present from my parents and found an iPhone box. Ecstatic, I quickly opened it. Apparently, my parents thought it would be funny to wrap my present, a $10 iTunes gift card, in the box my Dad's iPhone came in. FML

That isn't funny. But a 10 dollar iTunes gift card is something. Something is better than nothing

I don't know about that guys. I'm thinking the FML is more that they acted like they were getting her the phone by giving her the box but didn't. She has obvious reason to be disappointed as opposed to them just saying no which would still disappoint but not half as much. Wouldn't you be sad if you unwrapped a present and was all "OMG you got me the new *whatever*! You shouldn't have" Then you open it's..a Itunes card. As opposed to it just being "Wow, Itunes card, sweet!"

I think that your parents are sadistic. I would have been hurt a lot, not by the fact of not getting the iPhone -- it's not the base cost, but the monthly costs that are IMO reasonably up for discussion -- but the getting your hopes up with the box. Hate to say this, but these are not people you can count on. You need to start disengaging with them as much as possible, maybe not in the sense that you move out and don't see them, but emotionally. Start thinking about taking care of yourself, being your own parent, because you certainly can't count on these guys.

WAAAAH WAAAH My parents are abusing me because they won't get me an iPhone WAAAH Jesus and you wonder why America's gone to the dogs. Get a ******* dose of reality, kid.

get a real phone...ask for the HTC Bravo...it comes out next month...it puts the droid to shame...and the droid puts the Iphone to shame...get the picture

It's possible they could have just been reusing the box. People DO do that, you know. If that's the case...this is neither a FYL nor a YDI. IT's just a ...."Meh. No one cares." FYL if they actually intended it as a joke. Yeah, you're a bit...out of touch...for expecting them to get you something so expensive just because you "hinted that you wanted one" (my God, have you SEEN the monthly bills for those things? Start adding on all the extra apps and whatnot, and you have one expensive phone). But that's still a shit thing to do to your kid.

I'm sorry, FYL.. that's ****** heartless and cold, but funnyer than shit :) sorry u didn't get r iPhone...?

I just want to point out... The OP said he asked for an iPhone, an instead got the box that his Dad's iPhone had come in. So they obviously COULD afford a new phone! Perhaps his dad just needed a new phone more than the kid. In my family, my parents get all the new stuff and I get their hand-me-downs...
