Today, it was my birthday. I have been heavily hinting that I want an iPhone. I opened my present from my parents and found an iPhone box. Ecstatic, I quickly opened it. Apparently, my parents thought it would be funny to wrap my present, a $10 iTunes gift card, in the box my Dad's iPhone came in. FML

That isn't funny. But a 10 dollar iTunes gift card is something. Something is better than nothing

I don't know about that guys. I'm thinking the FML is more that they acted like they were getting her the phone by giving her the box but didn't. She has obvious reason to be disappointed as opposed to them just saying no which would still disappoint but not half as much. Wouldn't you be sad if you unwrapped a present and was all "OMG you got me the new *whatever*! You shouldn't have" Then you open it's..a Itunes card. As opposed to it just being "Wow, Itunes card, sweet!"

All you NEED is a cheap flip phone that costs $30.

Honestly, the world ate cheap kid. Why the hell would you need an iphone? All you need is a phone to make calls and make texts or a quarter for the payphone. You should be happy with what you get. And if you want something expensive pay for it yourself. And don't be a snob when receiving gifts. I'm happy with socks.

Wah, wah, wah. The spoiled little kid didn't get his iphone. WAH!!

You guys need to chill the **** out. It's not a god damn crime for someone to want something that is desirable. What his parents did was a dick move. They not only realised that he wanted an iPhone, but had the nerve to make him think he got one, and instead gave him a shitty $10 gift card. I don't know what kind of background the kid is from, but if his dad owns an iPhone, they can't be that badly off. A $10 present on your birthday is lame. Plus those gift cards are a waste. All gift cards are. Give someone the money instead, and let them choose how to spend it. Grumble grumble bitch bitch grumble rawr.

Yeah...when I got my first phone (about 3 years ago), it was one of those tiny little Sony Ericcson ones. When I turned 18, I went out and bought my G1. Don't rely on others for something that costs money. Period. Buy it yourself, or wait for another mindless object of media fascination

go ahead and ask yourself this question: who needs an iphone when you still live with your parents? the phone is going to cost a lot of money, the plans are overpriced, the apps will cost more money, and guess what, if I were your parents, I wouldn't want to pay for all that either. Grow up kid, your life doesn't suck. your parents could take your money b/c of tight economic times or tell you no presents, so suck it up and if life's that bad, end it.

Maybe your parents are heavily hinting they want you out of the house!

Haha. At least you got presents. That's not an FYL in the slightest, but it was a damned good prank.

how are they spoiled? everyone, WANTING and iPhone does not make you a spoiled brat. Also, OP didn't GET an iPhone, their parents played a (fairly funny, but mean) joke on them.

Your dad worked to pay for that phone. How about you do the same, instead of asking for an expensive gift like that?
