Thanks, iHate it

Today, it was my birthday. I have been heavily hinting that I want an iPhone. I opened my present from my parents and found an iPhone box. Ecstatic, I quickly opened it. Apparently, my parents thought it would be funny to wrap my present, a $10 iTunes gift card, in the box my Dad's iPhone came in. FML

That isn't funny. But a 10 dollar iTunes gift card is something. Something is better than nothing

I don't know about that guys. I'm thinking the FML is more that they acted like they were getting her the phone by giving her the box but didn't. She has obvious reason to be disappointed as opposed to them just saying no which would still disappoint but not half as much. Wouldn't you be sad if you unwrapped a present and was all "OMG you got me the new *whatever*! You shouldn't have" Then you open it's..a Itunes card. As opposed to it just being "Wow, Itunes card, sweet!"

FYL because you didn't get a $400 phone for your birthday? Jesus, kid, grow up.

The point is, they got it for his dad, and gave him the BOX with a gift card (that more than likely came free). So, I don't think he's spoiled... =/ FYL, OP.

wouldn't OP get tipped off that the iPhone box was already open since it wouldn't have had the plastic wrapping around it?

Refurbished phones don't have the plastic around them, maybe the op thought that they were getting a refurbished iPhone, which is only around $50 as opposed to $200 and works just as well.

You don't live in Somalia. Count your blessings, prick.

I don't think half of you understand the FML part of this. op's parents intentionally put the giftcard in the iPhone box to crush his hopes. sounds pretty cruel, I'd be pissed if my mom tried to pull that with me. ( PS - totally read this from my iPhone. )

If that's the worst thing his parents have ever done to him, then he's still a spoiled little brat. I can't imagine how many FMLs OP'd crank out of his sorry 15-year-old ass if he was raised by my parents. to heck with not getting an iPhone for my birthday, I'd have been lucky if they let me use my own money to buy an iPhone for myself. Either OP is out of touch with reality or I am. I pray for the sake of the planet that OP is.

Chill... the FML is that his parents got his hopes up and dashed them just for amusement. What if he had been 5 years olf and wanted a simple action figure, and his parents had done the same thing? You wouldn't be able to call him spoiled... and it would be the same FML.

well at least u got something... if u want an iphone, get one urself

Oh come on, wouldn't you feel the same way if you were in the OP's position? Sure, the parents might have found it funny, but it was the OP's birthday. You just don't do things like that to people on their birthday (unless they're a complete jerk). They deliberately put the giftcard in the iPhone box; that would be a let down for anyone. Don't even try to act like you wouldn't feel like that if it happened to you.

This one sounds really familiar to an old fml

I think they'll give it to you for christmas or something as the rest of the joke :P hopefully!! ^_^

With any luck, your parents did this to teach you a lesson about materialism. You don't need some stupid overpriced phone to be happy. Some kids are lucky to get food this christmas.
