Today, a child was choking in the store I work at. He was alone in the aisle, so I started the Heimlich without his parents' permission. After dislodging what was caught, his mother turned the corner and went screaming to my manager for touching her kid. I got a write up. FML

Parents have no common sense these days

Hey OP. At least you saved a life. Many people would have just walked by

So she would rather her child be dead? Wow...

Good for you for doing the right thing. There was a local story where a mom was at a park with her three kids. She lost attention of her youngest for a minute and he wandered off. Nobody said or did anything. After a night of searching he was found dead in the river. All I kept asking was why nobody grabbed him or even said something to the mom. I'd rather take the chance of pissing the parent off then something going wrong. I'm glad to hear there are still some who do that as well. Don't let getting written up bother you. You did the right thing and your company should have stood behind you. Just because they are the ones who would turn their back doesn't mean you have to change who you are and do the same.

At least you saved the child! Too bad he has such an airhead for a mother...

Oh for ****'s sake, men can't do ANYTHING with children without being accused of something ridiculous. "Pedo, don't touch my kid!" Does she really think you would just touch her kid in the middle of a store in front of all these people? Ungrateful wench.

EXACTLY! I remember a while back when a woman threw a freakin' FIT because a volunteer father at her daughter's toddler day care was helping kids of both genders go to the bathroom. She accused him of being a pervert for taking the girls to go potty (mind you, he had a daughter who was the same age) and petitioned the school to ban him from helping anymore.

Are you serious? They didn't ban him did they?

I'm really hoping for a happy follow up comment to this FML. It was a wonderful thing you did- you deserve an apology and an office party in your honor. I think you would be disrespecting yourself very much to not say something and stand up for yourself. Fight for documentation- if your boss decides he has a problem with you standing up for yourself, take your documentation and great work ethic somewhere where it will be appreciated. You went above and beyond being a good employee- you became a life saver. You deserve better. Go make sure you get it- best of luck.

But you saved his life?!? That's crazy

Hey OP, you only got a write-up. A lot of places do this when customers complain. It may be standard procedure but your manager may know the truth and not hold that write up against you. Like being in an accident that's not your fault. You did nothing wrong and won't be penalized but the incident is still documented.
