Today, a cop rear-ended me. Then I received a ticket from him for driving too far under the speed limit. We were in a school zone. FML

umm can't you dispute this in court? In most cases, the person rear ending you is at fault because they were either a) driving too close and/or b) not paying attention. You could've stopped for any number of legitimate reasons. Sadly this is just another case of a cop abusing his power so he doesn't get reprimanded. Get a lawyer fast OP.

Get a lawyer. You'll get compensation and an apology. He'll get a reprimand - He deserves it.

Just because it's a school zone doesn't mean you have to drive slow. You slow down ONLY when children are present. I hate it when dumbasses like you slow down for no reason.

Kind of like when dumbasses assume that FMLs are moderated instantly and usually don't take 2-3 days to go through.

1) What makes you think children weren't present? 2) The 'children present' rule only applies in a few places. 3) Most school zones apply for whatever the posted times are, regardless of other circumstances. 4) Some school zones apply 24/7/365. 5) Slowing down in a school zone is not "for no reason". 6) FMLs aren't necessarily posted the day they're written. 7) FMLs aren't necessarily written the day they happen. 8) You're an ass.

Even if you were going too far under the speed limit, school zone or not, it's his fault for rear-ending you. Use that information in court. If you don't have any previous violations the judge will probably let you off.

op could win in the case of the rear-ending, but he/she (sorry, forgot to check) could still have to pay the ticket for driving dangerously slow (if that was the case).

Most judges could care less about speed-limit issues, though, so OP might have a chance to fight it. If OP really was driving dangerously slow, then it's a YDI. I hate when people drive under the speed limit anyway haha.

you can take it to the court and have the ticket taken away.

wow, that's complete crap. I'm sorry

My fiance is a cop, so he told me what to say to you on here. Take that pig to court, because it was his fault not yours. Contest that ticket! some cops won't even show up because it means taking an unpaid day off to do so. In case he does, though, take evidence with you like pics of the area, the school zone sign, speed limit sign, damage to your car. Good luck to you!

I'm seeing 2 scenarios here 1. You're a dumbass because the school zone lights weren't flashing... and you were driving 15 mph in a 45 mph zone for no reason 2. The cop was on his/her period that morning and gave you a ticket for no reason which also means you should fight the ticket

School zone lights? I've never seen a school zone light in my life, they don't have those everywhere, they just have signs.

I have to agree with Oblio, in the area where I live none of the school zones have lights. They just have large signs that say School Zone speed limit 15, and School Zone Speed limit 15 between the hours of X and X. It differs between zones because in a couple of areas the speed limit 15 is in play all day every day.
