Today, after I took my first set of exams, my professor posted on Twitter, scoffing at how stupid one student's answer was. The answer he quoted was one that I wrote. FML
I agree, your life sucks 51 018
You deserved it 10 251

Same thing different taste

At least he didn't name you specifically.

That's not right, he shouldn't post that kind of stuff about his students online.

what a douche ! People tend to overshare these days. Sorry, OP. Just out of curiosity, what was the quote?

He's a teacher. Also an employee. Also a human. We all bytch about coworkers, bosses, customers, patients, clients, etc. Give him a break.

It could be worse... Your professor could have outed you. Cheer up, though, because if you really try, set your mind to it, prove to him that you're not an idiot. Prove that motherducker wrong!

That's kind of rude of him. You should talk to the dean

The professor has every right to post what he wants as long as the name wasn't used! its OP's fault for answering the question like a dummy!

That depends on the answer that you gave. If he gave you a real-world example and it was way off logically (for example if you calculated that a guy lifted a metric tonne) then you probably deserve it. Otherwise, he has the inalienable right to free speech, even if he offends you. This may shock you, but people will occasionally say things that don't make you feel so nice. Get over it.

OP is from Canada where the "inalienable right" to free speech does not extend to slander and public humiliation. Canada has anti-bullying laws to protect students from humiliating treatment (from students and teachers) like posting embarrassing comments in public media. The teacher could lose his job over this and if an investigation finds he has a habit of making nasty public posts he could end up facing jail time.

Canada doesn't have anti-bullying law. But some provinces do.

Also without identifying details like a name it's not slander or public humiliation

A couple of points. First of all, it would be libel not slander. Slander is defamation with a spoken word, libel is defamation in writing. Second of all, truth is an absolute defense against both. If it's true, it's not slanderous or libelous.

Screenshot it and report it to the ethics board/dean/whoever is designated to deal with incidents like this one. Very unprofessional. If he needs to complain about his work life perhaps don't do it on a public forum where it can and should bite him in his ass.
