To be fair, the first HP novel isn't great. I read it and didn't bother to read the rest. Especially when I found out they would all be made into movies. Mostly because reading the books first almost always makes the movies a letdown. Now that I've seen the whole series, I'll consider wading through the books.
Honestly the first book was my least favorite. I trudged through it my first time reading the series, and gave the rest of the books a chance. It can't hurt to give them another chance, I'm thankful I did.
I liked the spirit and feel of the movies. I was afraid it was going to turn into an '8 books of school pranks and hijinks' kind of thing, kind of like the St. Trinians series that I've also only seen movies of. But it got pretty dark after his second or third year and the story was pretty well paced for the most part. So yeah, I'll probably hint around for a book box set for a birthday or xmas present or something.
I am with you I didn't like the first Harry potter book either after being badgered to read it. Perhaps we need to set up a support group for those that don't like the Harry potter series. :)
At least it wasn't 50 shades of grey.
"Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light" -Dumbledore My boyfriend absolutely cannot stand Harry Potter, Doctor Who, or any of my programs like that, but he deals with it, so even though you don't like the series, use that quote to improve the situation :) (yes I know that's a movie quote not a book one, I am a serious Harry Potter book and movie lover)
Granted the first book isn't as amazing as the rest, but it's still one of the most amazing books ever.
I guess here comes my down votes because I am not a Harry Potter fan and yes I have tried it too it just didnt hook me. I am sorry it worked that way, what can I say??? Anyways I am sorry for that one OP. I had someone once spend months trying to figure out why exactly I didnt like it and to give it like a million more chances. I am sorry I cannot change how I feel especially not to please someone. So I feel ya there.
yess finally someone who understands how its okay to hate Harry potter ive never read the book and have only seen like 3 of the first movies and only bits and pieces
And you thought you'd get sympathy here? Poor muggle.
I voted YDI for allowing yourself to be pressured into reading it. I'm a HP fan, but I've never forced anyone into reading it. My friends just know that they can just let me indulge my obsession and not insult the series and we're good.
