Boo ******* hoo, some guy took his own hard earned money and paid for something they care about's health instead of listening to some dumb **** on the internet and giving it to charity. What about people who spend hundreds of thousands more to buy a bigger house, even though they don't really a house that big? Shouldn't they have given their money to charity? What about billionaires who spend their money on playboy bunny slaves? How many little African kids would you save if he gave all his money to charity? Face it you dumb *****, giving your money to charity is an option, stop making it seem like this guy was obligated to do it just because he spent money on his dog. You know what else people do? They spend loads of money buying food for their dogs! And pfft, we ALL know dogs don't need food! They should have spend that money on some poor kids in Africa with AIDS to let them live a few more days even though they're already on death row because no amount of money even in your stupid ******* idealistic bubble could save them all. Grow the **** up.

I can't believe how many heartless people are on here. For anyone saying "why don't you JUST get a new dog? or "why would you spend that much on an animal", you are the ******* scum of the earth. Would you tell someone who lost their baby to just get a new one? Yeah, to some people, pets are like children.

wow. that is ridiculous. who does that, honestly? I wish I had 15 grand to waste. YDI!!!

I love my dog. I would easily spend this amount of money if I had it. I've spend a good 5k on my doggy from his being sick. He's alive and well and totally worth it. :-) Dear OP, I think you dog died as a result of the medication you were giving him to cure/get rid of/manage the cancer. :-( I'm sorry to hear he didn't make it. I also hope you were sensible about treating him meaning I hope he wasn't 17 years old when you tried to save him from cancer.

people go to great lengths for their animals, sucks that he dies though after all, verry sorry :/

Tbh, if my pet was sick with a serious disease like cancer and very little chance of survival, I think I'd just put it down instead of making it suffer. FYL though OP, because you just lost a friend :(

My dog has cancer. The chemo costs $1,500 at most. There is a more powerful chemo that costs a lot more but it also makes the dog feel ill. YDI if you put your dog through that just for another couple of months. F your dog's life.

You do realize that vets are pretty much used car salesmen, right? My friend's cat got diagnosed with feline leukemia on pretty much no evidence, and the test cost $250. Some of us told her to get a second opinion, and the test to discover that it was a false positive also cost $250. Yay for a Lexus payment!

Hey! That's exactly what my cat was misdiagnosed to NOT have, and he did! (I forgot the name of the disease earlier; he had this and the brain tumors). I agree, many vets are just like that. We have a new vet now >:) She even sat me down and explained to me one of my cats' blood panel, with the test results in hand for me to look at.

It was surgery, not chemo. He wouldn't have survived radiation or chemo. $15,000 was for the entire process, from diagnosis to surgery and recovery in the clinic afterwards. It included a 4 day vet stay to perform an ultra-sound, x-ray (surgery would be pointless if the cancer had spread), colonoscopy, endoscopy and biopsy. Then there was the surgery and another 6 days in the clinic for recovery with 24-hour supervision and some pretty hefty painkillers and antibiotics. My dog suffered no more after surgery then he would have for any other common surgery like spaying/neutering, twisted stomach, etc.

Yeah, throwing a dead cancer-dog would be pretty horrible.

What the... well my reply was just knocked out of orbit. [edit] And now the comment I was replying to reappeared... what

honestly, if the dog was suffering, it was great of you to try to save his life and all, but dogs don't respond real well to cancer treatments. the right thing to do would be to put him out of his misery. :(

u shud've just taken it outside in the backyard, played with it for an hour, like fetch or something then when it wasn't looking just shot it, and put it out of its misery.

$15k on a pet? I wonder how many starving African children that will feed. That is an excessive amount of money on a pet, so YDI. Human lives are always more important than an animal's life. If you find yourself spending more on your cat or dog than you would on a human being, something is wrong with your values.

As so many people have said: If you had that 15k, would you donate it to charity? Bet not. I bet you've spent that much and more on yourself. That dog is his family member that he knows and loves, not some random kid in Africa.

In response to #214 and others who say "how many starving *insert nation here* children would that save," the answer is none. Every dime you spend on that cause goes to the corrupt UN-backed governments which take every dime to buy weapons or luxuries for its ruling classes. Also, it isn't his responsibility to spend money on starving children in another country, and if given the option to save EVERY starving child on the earth or my cat, I'd pick my cat every time. Why, you may ask? 1. My cat's my friend, in a sort of pet-owner type way. Starving children in Africa don't know me, and will probably never know me. 2. There isn't a problem with feline overpopulation in the world today. 3. Nine times out of ten, the starving Africans would make the same decision I would in the same situation. So for all of you who are going YDI because the money could have went to an African child, why don't you sell all your belongings and live a spartan lifestyle (for you non-educated, spartan referring to meager and minimalist, not actually Spartan) and donate every extra dime you make to starving African children, or is your Prius and antique vase collection really that important? FYL's for being born without properly functioning cerebellums.

to #276, you would actually save your own cat instead of every African child? Then you are an asshole. Not everything you say is true either, there are plenty of ways of using money to help people where the cash doesn't just end up being used to buy arms by a corrupt govt. And FYI, the term 'spartan', as in a spartan lifestyle, derives from the fact that that's how the Spartans lived. And to the OP, sorry about your dog.

a stranger's life is more important than your dog? They're called man's best friend for a reason. OP doesn't have to spend his hard earned money on strangers.
