Today, after weeks of practice, I proudly did 9 chin-ups on my chin-up bar. As soon as I was done, my 11-year-old daughter came over and banged out 12 of them. Then she wiped her sweaty hands off and did 8 more. Then she gave me pointers on my technique. FML

Damn. Kids. Keeping it real since 1873.

Well she does have years of practice on those monkey bars compared to your few weeks... Don't feel to bad OP.

It's easier for kids to do stuff like that because they play on monkey bars and by climbing on stuff. I can't do a pull up to save my life, but when I was her age I could. Also, most women, myself included, carry our strength in our legs. So, assuming you're a woman (my app doesn't specify gender), you have nothing to feel bad about.

Really? I've always had way more strength and muscle in my arms then in my legs and I'm a girl. I gain arm muscle and keep it to the point that it gets embarrassing. Point is, women don't tend to carry their strength in their legs more so than their arms :P

Please read a book on biomechanics or phisiology, or even check out an oly-lifters stats, you couldn't be more incorrect.

Well, gravity is your enemy. You can't go back in time and revert to being a child, so your only hope is to condition yourself. I'm 230 lbs. of pure, uncensored lard (!) and can do 20+ pull-ups. Almost everything is possible with conditioning.

When I was a skin and bones kid I could do 20 without any problems. Nowadays, I cycle, run and swing kettlebells on an almost daily basis, but chin-ups are out of the question.

Don't worry OP, 11 year old girls are at their peak body weight to strength ratio, that's why you see so many little girls bold pin gymnastics and not boys.

My daughter is in gymnastics. It also depends on technique when placing for points. I have seen guys who are in their teens who were obviously strong in tumbling, but sloppy on technique.

Doesn't surprise me. Many young kids have tremendous strength. I watch my nephews and nieces go!!! and wish I could bottle up their energy! Good thing your daughter is active and not a TV junky blob (yet) :P

Well it could be how much she weighs. Skinnier people usually have an easier time pulling up their own weight.

I'm going to say that weight is the significant factor. Back when I weighed 130 I could bang out chin-ups as easily as breathing. These days, when I'm hovering around 210, I'll be lucky if I can do 10.
