Where did I argue for censorship? I have no problem with the FML, and I'm not saying it should be taken down. I am saying that I find it sad that people think it's okay to claim that women deserve to be beaten, even in jest. In point of fact, I have more of a problem with the hypocrisy of people who espouse these prejudices but, when called on it, pretend to be open-minded and egalitarian. At least people like #67 know that they're assholes...it's those of you who pretend that there is nothing wrong with these attitudes that disturb me. And for the record, I would argue that there is a huge difference between playing a game that is marketed as such, in which violence is not supposed to be real, and claiming that a group of people deserve to be attacked. One is fiction, one is (ostensibly) reality. I don't want to censor anyone. Keep making sexist comments. I'm just exercising my own right to say that it saddens me. um, yeah...actually you're wrong. I laugh at every kind of joke, racist, sexist, everything. that doesn't mean i approve of any of it. for example, i can laugh and make jokes about any nationality, but I am probably the greatest anti-nationalist in my whole country! be a little more open-minded! because you know, people like you really piss me off. I'm a Jew, and when a person makes a Jew joke once or twice, it's funny. When fifty of them are made it becomes hurtful and upsetting. Also, again, not against free speech! But it concerns me when people don't think about the effects repeated opinions have. One black joke? Potentially funny. Too many of them? Promotes racism. Psychological studies show how stereotypes affect people...for example, a study done on the SATs had one group of students who were told before the test, "Black people don't do as well on this as white people" and a control group. The black people in the group who were reminded of the stereotype did significantly poorer than the black people in the control group. A similar study was done with women who were told that "women are not as good at math as men"...control group did much better. Even if something isn't true, repeated exposure to an idea can affect people on a subconscious level. And by they way...just because you can say something, by the way, doesn't mean you should.

Yeah, I'll make a joke about snick but it doesn't mean I hate her. (In a way I think she likes it, or why would she stick around here). I would say that if nothing is off limits as far as jokes go, you end up being way more tolerant.

A joke on the internet is not going to cause anyone to become or continue to be abusive. I myself have been wailed on by a female once. She got pissed when i yelled at her for taking my car when she does not have a license or insurance. She threw a punch at me, i caught it, and told her she needed to stop. Then, the dumb bitch decided she wanted to try some more. After the second punch, i had her spun around and out cold in a sleeper hold before anyone could say yankeedoodle, or well for the FML world, snickerdoodles.. lol. Lesson of story, everyone deserves it on occasion.

Umm...what?? Domestic abuse is a very serious symptom of a larger societal problem. A discussion of the violence women face, at this point and over the course of history, is no less serious than a discussion of other types of persecution.

thank you. i was getting so pissed by all these comments. i used to think that women who were beaten by their boyfriends were stupid for not getting out. but when it actually happened to me and i did try to get away, he beat me until i couldn't move. so no, i really don't find these comments funny at all. now if you beat a girl because she is coming at you with a knife, that would be a good idea. but i didn't do anything wrong. oh and guess what, i cooked for him too. so yeah, not funny. i know it's fml, but still. try to have a little bit of a heart.
