The woman has no rights, thats true, but think about this for a second. She wants to return a video game, you guys sell video games, even without receipt you should be able to return items, because of the following. - If you want to keep clients comming, make them happy, even if they are wrong. - The amount of people that would come to your bussiness to return a product that they didn't buy from you will be marginal. - when people return a product, this is not a loss, it is an opportunity to sell them something, to make bussiness! Company's want to many rules and won't see how easy it is to keep their clients happy with little to no extra cost. This is no fault of op, that is clear as day, he doesn't make the rules he just abides them.
You've never ran a business have you? If they did that, that would be abused so much. People would be taking back any game they didn't like, for a refund on something they didn't buy there. Why would the store just hand out money to anyone that asks? They'd be out of business in a heartbeat. There's a reason stores don't let you buy a game, then return it within 30 days and get another game anymore. It's because stores ended up turning into video game library's and made no profit, while people were playing games to the full and returning them.
@71 Scenario 1: The customer buys a game at another store, and then "returns" the game with no receipt to the OP's store. Result: Net loss for the OP's store. Scenario 2: The customer buys a game at the OP's store, plays it until she no longer has any use for it, and returns the game with no receipt, probably outside the normal return policy, for a refund. Result: Net loss for the OP's store (when you consider the man hours that went into the purchase and return). Scenario 3: The customer steals a game from someone and "returns" it with no receipt to the OP's store for a profit. Result: Net loss for the OP's store (and it's illegal).

Customers who expect an exchange without a receipt are just idiotic. I see this situation on a regular basis where I work, where something will be half price one week and then the next week someone who "bought this stuff yesterday" come in looking for a full refund without a receipt to verify the dates
