It's probably because of that time you worked for a phone sex line. There was one guy who was so perverted you hung up on him after calling him a pervert. He then kept calling you back after tracing your number. You were so afraid, till this day, you are still scared of picking up the phone... I have a wild imagination.

You guys really? OP isn't afraid of the phone she is just nervous about the new job and receptionists have other responsibilities. She probably forgets the phone is even there when she gets super busy so ya a phone is shocking when it goes off and you aren't paying attention. God people please get some common sense!! But that sucks they think you are weird for it.

Sorry #62, You have a degree in order to be a receptionist? Either that's an awful degree or you need to raise your aspirations a little. Also, it's her second day, she's allowed to be nervous. She might also be working in a very quiet environment where the phone rings very little, and nothing says she's bad at actually ANSWERING the phone - just that she jumps when it happens. Either way, it's not for you to be 'sickened' just because someone managed to get a slightly better job than you. Are you 'sickened' by everyone with their own company? No. You get on with it and work hard until you get a break like everyone else in the world.
