YDI, shouldn't have tried to read her diary. If you're feeling distant, talk to her, not invade her personal space.
As a mom, the ONLY time I believe parents have the 'right' to invade their children's privacy is if they truly believe their child/children are harming themselves and/or others. NEVER have I gone through my children's things. My kids tell me everything. Is some hard to hear? Yes. However, there is mutual respect. In turn, they respect my privacy. As parents, we cannot 'control' our kids. We can only guide them and hope they make choices that are right for them. OP, get the hell out of your daughter's room & start talking to her. PDQ.
No wonder your daughter is distancing herself from you... learn to trust her, and respect her privacy, goodness woman -.- YDI
You're an asshole for looking in her diary.
Filch is going to have a fit when he finds out you've been in the restricted section of the library!
God I love Harry Potter references.
YDI so much. For starters, what if you did find something to "bond" with her over, what would you tell her when she asked where you got the idea from? Not only that, what would you have done if you read something in there that you didn't like (i.e. her whining about you one day when you pissed her off). You can't exactly confront her about what she said without admitting that you invaded her privacy for no reason.
Why just why can us girls keep our stuff private oh I know a screaming diary!
And this is why I type my diary up on my password protected computer :)
Here's a little pearl of wisdom for future reference: NEVER read a girl's diary. It's a huge violation of her trust and she's going to feel betrayed if she ever finds out, which is only going to serve to widen the schism you're trying to close in the first place.
Or a boy's diary, for that matter.
Severs u right for invading her privacy

If you were distant, shouldn't you, oh I don't know, try to talk to her instead of looking at her diary? YDI
Say hello to trust issues and an even greater distance..
