Those who say sex can't "just happen" have clearly never had drunk lost in the moment sex. It can and does "just happen", don't get me wrong, I'm not excusing their actions, but electing for an emotional reaction may lose you a friend and girlfriend over a stupid drunken mistake that would never happen again. he had the sack to tell you, probably one of the hardest things he's had to do, man up and talk to them.

First off, we don't know if that's what happened, and secondly if they had the hots for each other so badly that they just got drunk and in the sack the minute OP got out of town, then that's still bad enough. That's not a friend OR a girlfriend you want. You're always aware of attraction, and everyone is capable of knowing who you shouldn't be drinking with if you don't want to end up boning. A good friend is PARTICULARLY in a position where he should know better than to go drinking with "your friend's hot girlfriend". Any girlfriend should know better too.

Well geez at least he could have waited till your trip was done. On the other hand you are now free too have crazy wild sex with cute and sexy strangers. Oh and I'd dump both the girlfriend and friend when you got home. Can't trust either one.
