You've always wanted a cat, but appearantly you don't know anyone with cats, otherwise you'd know you're allergic. Just shave the pussy.
YDI for being stupid enough to want a disgusting animal like a cat wandering around in your house.
It's entirely possible that you're allergic to a specific breed or hair type. There are people who are severely allergic to cats who are totally fine around torties, which SHOULDN'T make any sense, since that's a color pattern and not a hair type or breed. These people are in the minority of those who are allergic, but it's a possibility. Find out whether you're allergic to the hair, the dander, or the saliva of the cat. Then determine whether your allergies can be controlled by medication or if they are too difficult for you to handle. If they are too difficult for you to manage, find a friend who will take care of the cat. Don't just drop her off at a shelter or the pet store.
Ouch. Though, my sister is allergic to cats too. Yet she have had as many as 3 cats (when one died, she bought a new one, and when that one died, she bought another one). She have had a cat since she was 7... And now she's 29. So, with the right medication, I don't think it's impossible for you to have a cat. Btw, cats rock! :D
im not a big fan of cats, but if i were in your situation and instead of a cat it was a dog i would be pretty bummed out. FYL.
I have a cat and a small apartment I've been allergic to animals all my life. At first I would sneeze and tear up but now I'm used to it. Make sure you keep your apartment clean and vacuum regularly at Petsmart there is a spray called Dander-Off that you can spray on your furniture that helps.

Wouldn't you be aware of that allergy BEFORE you got the cat? You've never had allergy tests done, or gotten a stuffy nose when you were around your friends' cats? I suggest shots if you want to keep it. Either that, or zyrtec. Zyrtec (allergy medication) is WONDERFUL. I'm (supposedly) allergic, and I don't react to my cat at all.
so get some allergy medicine.
