you should've been more convincing. he probably assumed you were joking or something. breaking up with a person you've been with for seven years doesn't happen in one phrase, it happens in a long talk.

That, or in their 7 years together she broke up with him many times, and they continuously got back together. He probably isn't taking you seriously.

Seven years? My guess is this relationship was heading down a bad path for a long time, especially if that was his reaction. Maybe he is as ready to move on as you are, which is actually a really good thing.
