Finally 87 and 90 have something subjective to add. Look, all the OP said was he busted his ass and they had agreed that he would get paid something for his effort. Clearly if he had been doing it just for the money, he would have agreed upon a figure before hand, since he didn't, I assume he was expecting a small amount that would signify her gratitude. A toy car displays senility or scamming. It’s like her saying "Great job, will you accept a slap in the face, that’s how we paid each of back in nineteen dickety two, we had to say dickety, because the Kaiser stole our word for twenty?" He didn’t end the FML with and then I punched her in the jaw, or I’m taking her to court, or I shat in her sink. All he wanted to do was vent his frustration at the situation and maybe get a little sympathy in lieu of actual payment. All the people who are calling him selfish are most likely full of crap and hypocrites. From my experience people who would be happy to perform selfless acts aren’t really big on trash talking people who don’t perform similar acts flawlessly. There are plenty of people in this world who would have said no to her or gone ballistic when they got a toy car. I think he handled the situation well.

Nursing homes are expensive enough so the old lady could at least give you 50 dollars (which is nothing). If you were told you would get paid you should have been paid, but it depends on WHO told you you would be paid. And yes, like some other persons said, old persons have much more help than broke college graduate like myself. So you know, i have the maximum scholarship the state can provide, here in France, to styfu, and it's about 440 euros per month, during 9 months (thats aroung 4000 dollars a year). With that, i'm supposed to eat (and food is expensive here), pay my rent (no rent room is under 400 euros a month, my two pieces appartment is 580 euros, but i pay only about 340 euros, since the social logements allow a little budget for scholarship students), pay my internet and my transport (tramways are not that cheap). Yes all my medical stuff is free (except for contraception) because i fall under the wellfare, but with my 440 euros per month i can barely pay my rent and my food (and because my fiancé is type 1 diabetes, we cannot really only eat pasta). I get the most money i could possibly get to study and still it's very very hard. And because employment is very bad these days, i can't find a job anywhere (and i speak french spanish and english quite fluently). if you don't settle for price before working, that's ok, because there is something called "minimum salary".. Yes it's not an official contract payment but still, a 7 or 8 dollars an hour is basics.
