SeaCoyote: You're assuming an awful lot there, pal. Maybe she doesn't HAVE any grandchildren. Maybe she DID ask her kids/grandkids and THEY bailed on HER. Maybe a lot of things. But that's not what you ranted about. You went on about "society pressuring" you. Well, too bad. If you can't deal with peer pressure, maybe you should go back to high school for a while until you can grow up a bit. Your "People's Court" comment is a freakin' riot. Good luck with that one. Besides, it just goes to show that you WAY overvalue the time and effort spent here, and WAY undervalue the need for the OP to have a real agreement BEFORE DOING THE WORK. The OP deserves it because he didn't MAKE SURE that his expectations and hers were the same UP FRONT. Let this be a lesson to all of you that anything IMPLIED is by its nature UNRELIABLE. If you want to get "payed," you better take care of business at the START instead of whining about it on the Internet.
Sucks, but YDI for not establishing payment beforehand. This happens to everyone at least once - just have both parties clear on compensation up front.
Depending on the exact circumstances, this ISN'T a YDI like so many people are saying. If, in fact, the woman told him he'd be paid, he should've been paid. Simple as that. A reasonable person would not consider a toy car to be "payment". Also, to the people complaining that maybe the old lady couldn't afford to pay him: if that's the case, she shouldn't have offered any payment. If the guy was willing to do it as an act of charity, great. Otherwise, don't make offers you have no intention of keeping. Being a "little old lady" isn't an excuse for ripping someone off.
F*ck you OP!! This old lady is going to a nursing home and you are thinking about money?? Stop complaining! You did a good deed. Enjoy your new car :) #1 LOL Hahaha!! #63
Demand sex. Hot, kinky buttsecks.
I agree with #3 either way not really a FML thing anyway.
OMGSOSELFISH You should just forget the fact that you didn't get the pay you expected/were told to expect and focus on the warm fuzzy feeling. Those darn silly old people! As if money actually matters...
Quit being so ******* greedy, do you have an idea of what it costs to be in a nursing home? Did you expect her to hand you part of the money she needs for that home? Learn to help people just for the sake of helping them from time to time, without demanding money. You can make money doing a job, she'll be sitting in a small but expensive room for the rest of her life. YDI big time.
...Am I alone in actually *liking* old people and helping them out? Albeit, four hours of work is a bit much, but still. : I really think you should have just volunteered and grabbed a few friends to make moving the stuff easier, but I understand being frustrated with getting only a toy racecar in return for hours of manual labor. Oh well, not a total FML. You can still boast to the ladies about helping an old woman.
