Today, I called work crying, telling them that I wouldn't be able to go to work tomorrow due to my grandmother's sudden and tragic death. After hanging up, I walked into the midnight release of Grand Theft Auto 5. I had no idea my boss was also an avid gamer. FML

Most people have played hooky from work at some point, but you never EVER use a family member's death as an excuse. That's just horrible. Ydi

Come on, especially he should understand the magic of GTA V

In the long run, the only person he hurt with the lie was himself. What I don't get is why he did not request time off a month or so in advance. I know release dates are subject to change, but I got adverts for games two or three months from the event. He could have also sucked it up and gone to work tired.

Yeah. Everyone knows you use whatever tragedy has been on the teevee. Like claim you had an uncle at the Navy Yard and you're picking up GTA5 for his son to help him through these hard times. </sarcasm>

I feel bad for your grandmother if that's how much you respect her.

At least you have lots of time to play it now. YDI though

This really pisses me off because I've had to call in to work and truthfully explain that my grandpa, my hero, was dying in the hospital. The fact that you used this lie in order to attend an insignificant game release is deplorable. Karma is a bitch, asshole.

I'm disgusted by people who lie about someone dying as an excuse for anything...YDI OP...oh, & good luck on getting a new job, (since your reference from this boss will probably include "dishonest", "unreliable" & "immature" in the same sentence.

Oops. Sorry but skipping work for a video game is pathetic, and I'm an avid gamer.

This is the dumbest reason to get fired. You can now play GTA all you want, because I doubt you'll be able to get another job with that reference.
