You want to know why people talk shit about vegetarians? Because, as indicated by some responses from vegetarians here, some of them (not all of them, of course) come off as pompous assholes who think they're better than everyone else because of what they decide to eat. If you want those of us who eat meat and vegetables to leave you alone, leave us the **** alone. You don't have to make a goddamn announcement when you walk into a room. You don't see me walking around proclaiming my meat-eating status. To those of you who aren't in this pompous asshole group, I respect your decision to become a vegetarian and will give you no trouble. My above rant was not made for you. To OP, FYL for having a close-minded dad.
yeah, that is a lot of money. Maybe instead we should just get a personal physician for each cow, and give each chicken their own meadow, and maybe a small house with a white picket fence. Then we'd save so much money! Of course, we'd probably end up paying a few hundred bucks for a bucket of wings, but who cares, as long as the animals are happy. That should be our main concern, happy animals, not well-fed or satisfied people.
Based on long-estabishesd principles of ecology, agriculture, physics, etc., the vegetarian diet (or something close to it) is a moral imperitave. There's no way the human race can continue to live on meat with such a large population. People who continue to eat meat are either sadly ignorant or don't care if they leave our children with a very unpleasant world.
Though I'm sure it's not mean that way, the way this is written sounds like it'd be OK if the dad was disappointed if this WAS about homosexuality. :/ I wonder what would've happened if you were a vegetarian AND gay.
does it ******* matter what other people eat if it doesn't affect you? god that's bullshit. if someone wants to eat meat they eat meat, if people don't, they don't. god get the **** over it. i don't get why people get in such a fuss over it. it's other people not you doing it so just get out of their business. let them eat what they want to.
Go your dad I would say the same thing to my kids meat all the way and if you are a vegitarian and don't eat meat and there is extras that would be thrown out which you refuse to eat - didn't that animal die in vain and get wasted? Anyways tofu tastes bad while a chili bacon cheese burger with a fried egg on top is yummy
YDI. Being a vegetarian is proven unhealthy. You just need to be able to moderate yourself [which most people can't do]. Eat a Serving not 3.
YDI You're a silly **** for thinking you're somehow better than evolution.
I personally give props to the OP. I eat meat myself, as I don't see any major reason for me not too, except to eat less red meat. :P My girlfriend is vegetarian and I really support her for it. I think it takes a lot of guts to be a vegetarian! I know I could never do it, I love meat too much. X)
To be honest, I have nothing wrong with vegetarians. I have nothing wrong with gays. I have nothing wrong with athiests. What I DO have a problem with, is when they shove their beliefs in my face. Yes, I am aware that the burger I am eating is a dead animal. Yes, I do know that gay people need rights. Yes, I am perfectly aware that I have never seen god. And this, is why I had to click YDI. I have no problem with your choice, but instead of telling your father that you're a vegan and making a big deal of it, just say "No Thanks" the next time you get invited to a BBQ or something. To me, it's no better then when gays wear shirts saying "I'm gay and I'm proud". So, I applaud you for breaking away from the norm, but don't expect sympathy when people criticize your life decisions. I apologize if this offends, but it is my opinion and I felt like sharing it.
For all the people saying they dislike vegetarians because of the so called "pompous" ones, I'm pretty certain you're all full of crap and just looking for an excuse to be pompous yourselves. Here's an idea... if you don't wanna hear the multitude of reason's being vegetarian IS healthier, or what makes the meat you eat disgusting, or how the environment benefits from vegetarians, THEN DON'T ASK/JUDGE, and leave us the **** alone to our personal choices.
Gay people, like myself, sometimes have to make a point of broadcasting our sexuality for the same reason that black people had mass protest rallies led by people such as Martin Luther King Jr; we do it because we still don't have the things you take for granted; to marry the person you love, to hold your partner's hand in public without stares and nasty comments. I myself don't make a big deal over it, because I live in a country where I'm lucky enough that other people before me have already done that work and won those things for me, and I'm treated no differently to any straight person by the majority of the people I encounter. In America, and many other places, sadly, those t-shirts are still needed.
Oh, and to address your other point; regards my vegetarianism, you're right; it is a life choice, and I don't expect nor want sympathy. People are fully at liberty to criticise my choice, and I'm fully at liberty to defend my choice. And you're correct; if I make a big deal about it and shout it from the rooftops, I should expect to get attention, not all of it positive. It's exactly why people wear those kinds of t-shirts, by the way; to call attention to it and get the criticism out in the open where it can be debated, where understanding can be reached, rather than stay silent and let the problems (racism, homophobia, whatever) fester unchallenged. Obviously I'm talking about a lot more than just trivial t-shirts, you understand.
Well, like I said, I could care less what your sexual preferences are, as long as you keep them to yourself. I'd punch a gay man for touching me exactly as hard as I'd punch a straight man for touching my wife. Yes, it is unfortunate that those T shirts are still needed, hope it all works out in the end. And I thank you for expressing your opinion without being a dick, like most people whenever such a touchy subject is brought up.
