Today, I decided to look for the horrid stench coming from my bathroom. It turns out my roommate has been throwing away her used tampons in the "trashcan by the sink." That "trashcan" is my old antique vase. FML

That's disgusting. How hard is it to tell the difference between a vase and a trash can?

How is it so many people are demanding to know why someone would put an antique vase in the bathroom? The answer is simply that SOME people actually like making their bathroom look nicer than a closet in which they would defecate and urinate.

I guess you will need to start labeling everything in the house to make sure she knows what everything is used for. You wouldn't want her to mistake your loofah for an ass cleaner.

That is absolutely vile not very ladylike at all, What's so hard about keeping clean and hygienic?

Pure laziness, or in the case of OP's roommate, just plain stupidity.

Oh my god.... Sooo gross! And this is the exact reason why I like to live by myself. Anything gross I know is mine but I know how to clean up after myself. I am so sorry for your vase OP. make her scrub and disinfect the thing and tell her to start behaving like civilized, hygienic person!

Dz it look like a trash can ? Should be!

That is disgusting. Unless you live in an old house, she should be able to flush her tampons. Most septic systems nowadays can handle tampons just fine- you should only have to throw away the plastic applicators. Tampons are made to break down like toilet paper, it just takes them a longer period of time to do so. It is true that old septic systems often cannot handle tampons without becoming clogged, however, so it is best to know your house. I would make her empty the vase, but it is unlikely that she will clean it, and even more likely that if she does she will damage it, because it is an antique. Once it's emptied, throw on some protective gloves and pull out whatever disinfecting and sanitizing cleaners you think will be safe to use on it and do your best. Sorry it happened to you though, because that is freaking nasty. Good luck, OP.

"Most septic systems nowadays can handle tampons just fine" Pleaaaase, don't give this advice. Maybe some septic systems can handle them fine, but the majority can't. You can read clearly on the label that it's not okay to flush them down. So please, don't say this here, I feel bad for the future plumbers who will have to deal with all those tampon/condom-clogged toilets.

77- Miss, if you read my post, you will clearly see that I said several other things, too, including the fact that some septic systems cannot handle tampons, and that the owner should know what kind of house and septic system they have first. Please, read the entire comment before replying. Since you were nice enough to use quotes, I will as well, in that I said, "It is true that old septic systems often cannot handle tampons without becoming clogged, however, so it is best to know your house." Also, I find it very obnoxious when you type "Pleaaaase". Most people read things how they are typed, and I just read that as little kid's voice, begging for some candy. Next time, just type "Please."

You both are obnoxious 72- the long comment is both annoying and unnecessary. I'm sure she doesn't need a lesson on how to clean out a vase. 77- I always flush my tampons and have never had any problems. So yes, they are flushable in most bathrooms.

That's just disgusting. If your roommate can't tell the difference between a vase and a trash can, then maybe you should either move the vase to somewhere else, or get a more intelligent roommate. Sorry you had to deal with that, OP.
