Today, I finally came out to my dad, who is a priest, as gay. He responded by splashing me with holy water to "banish the demon within" me. FML

Just say you have had better fluids splashed on you and holy water can’t compare.

Bet you if you toss the holy water on the priest you can banish the false ideas that being gay is wrong.

Tell him you can't pray the gay away and Exorcisms aren't recognized

Win - cuts down on showering time today!

It’s a shame that OP’s Dad seems to be so ignorant about the actual facts of life. That’s ironic because priests generally are educated, but of course it is a religious education.... Is everyone else missing the additional irony that in most cases priests took vows of celibacy yet he has daughter? I know there are some exceptions - Like an Episcopal minister who was already married becoming a Roman Catholic and then becomes a priest. But those are a slim minority of priests. OP, as you are now fully aware parents can be imperfect and at times ignorant and prejudiced. And when “coming out comes as a complete surprise in a single event” it does not give parents much time to sort out their feelings and deal with the issues. I never had to deal with anything like that, but as a father I believe I would rather have shared in the gradual awakening of identity in my child than to be blindsided by a surprise revelation that was the opposite of all I had assumed. But I do also understand that some parents are so homophobic or transphobic that they would never have picked up on the signals before an “outing” and would have done anything they could to keep their child on the “straight and narrow path”.

I'm guessing OP's father is in a type of sect that lets their ministers/priests marry. I don't think he is apart of the Catholic church. However it is possible he married, but decided later on he wanted to be a priest instead.

This is one of the many reasons why I stop giving a **** to religion

How is your father a priest? Do you mean pastor or did he stray from the fold and your mom is a nun

It's possible that he's a widower who felt the calling to become a priest after his wifes death and took the vestments then - that's allowed you know

Priests can be Episcopal, and can marry.

I'm so sorry, OP. Clearly the church your dad leads is not as progressive as some.

I'm sort of curious just how you thought this would go.

You could have him charged with assault. I'm sure he'd make a fine prison bitch.
