This comment boards gonna get out of hand. Fmylife should turn off commenting here. But i use to think it was a choice because no one before about the time of hippies, no one who was gay showed it. But there was a law then that said if you showed homosexuality, you would be jailed. Also, I've heard stories of people who thought they were gay turn straight and live great lives. Though the study has not finished, I don't think its a choice. Gays are always beat up. Its basically why would you like to get beat up? You wouldn't choose.
You really think no one before the hippies was gay? Spend some time in an English class. Some very famous writers, like Marlowe, are assumed to have most likely been gay. Some others, like Shakespeare, are very much under debate and could go either way. Not to mention King Richard, who is largely believed to have been gay as well (or bisexual, but if you claim that, you end up with a ton of angry people saying there's no such thing). I also read something awhile ago about how one of the US presidents in the 1800s may have been gay, but I don't remember who it was or how much evidence there was to this point. Edit: I know you said no one showed they were gay, not that no one was, but not being openly gay in no way proves that being gay is a choice, just that coming out is a choice.
wow, this just comes to show how close minded people really are. maybe my family is just weird and not like everyone else, but when I told my mom and step dad I'm a lesbian, they said they already knew and they were okay with it! as long as I didn't go dykin' lol. your parents will eventually accept you and things will be okay. if it means anything, I live in the most redneck state in the US. that's right, Alabama. and gays and lesbians and trannys and bi people aren't approved here. but it's only usually with the older generations. the teens are getting more and more comfortable because there are so many of us out there. Gays will rule eventually.
can we just all agree that the problem truly is just different people's interputation of different relegions
i dont directly support gays and lesbians, but i understand the reason they may become/are gay/lesbian. i also know that many people react in such a wrong way when they hear someone is gay/lesbian. Reading the bible to them, will never help, only make them hate you.
Is it wrong that I'm insanely curious to hear your "reason"? As far as I know, science says male homosexuality (which they've studied a lot more) is partially due to genetics and largely due to the balance of testosterone in the mother's uterus. But I'm sure your explanation will be more fun... I've noticed that when religious people try and argue that it isn't exactly a choice, they end up saying people "become gay" because they were abused or neglected. Because clearly every gay person was molested by someone of the same gender...yeah...I'm sure that's how that works. And that does nothing to get rid of the idea of gays as child molesters, despite the fact that most child molesters are men and most victims are girls.
stupid bible beaters
sinner.
When I told my mum I was a lesbian she called me so many names and made me feel terrible about myself. Now I have a girlfriend, and I'm happy. Don't let anyone tell you any different, be proud of who you are, :).
word up girl :)
Aww, I'm sorry OP, but don't let anyone change who you are. You should be proud and not let anyone get you down. there's nothing wrong with being lesbian/gay. It sickens me to no end when I hear people protesting about this sort of thing or parents behaving like this. We are all different, and some people need to accept that. It's bad attitudes like that, that caused the Halocaust. Just keep your head up OP, and I wish you the best of luck :)
That's insane.
well OP they could have kicked you out or disowned you. sounds like they'll come around if you give them time.

I'm so sorry OP. I want to comment before the comments get shut off since moderators seem much more sensitive these days and I know that this is going to turn into a religious debate. I was raised Mormon and have a gay friend that was raised Mormon with me. They tried sending him to therapy, he tried praying it away etc. etc. He is now with his boyfriend. Stay true to yourself and your nature. Don't let a 2000 year old book, translated through multiple languages, with ridiculous messages get you down. You need to be happy with who you are :)
don't let people judge you! just be yourself no matter what people say or do.
