Its true that sex isn't everything but its a HUGE part of the distinction between your best friend and your significant other, actually sex is essentially the ONLY thing separating really best friends for life from life partners. The first time doesnt count though, if you like him keep trying. Communicate clearly, involve toys, foreplay whatever works. While i wouldnt give up on him for this alone if the sex is unbearably awful it will lead to resentment, boredom and eventually leak out into other parts of your relationship and it wont last.

Then teach him to be a better lover! Instead of wishing and hoping he would do what you like, tell him what it is that you want. Believe me, he doesn't want to be a bum in bed.
