Similar things happened at my school. The sports players and cheerleaders could just go up to someone and start beating on them (for no reason) and all the teachers, admin, etc. would stand and watch. When they (the "people" people at my school) were finally done, they might be asked (often weren't) why they decided to fight with the "nobody student". They could say that they "just felt like it" and get in no trouble while the "nobody student" and anyone who was seen witnessing it (and those who tried to stick up for the "nobody student" by telling the truth) would be either suspended (for anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks depending on the situation) or expelled because they were the "problem students" (band members included). The "nobody student" would just stand and take the beating but would still be the one in trouble because the school didn't want to punish their "stars" or "good students" who were "worth something" (I think most of the "worth something's" are either on drugs or in jail now). Even in the "nobody student" had to go to the ER. The school would all the parents and tell them that "their kid had been involved in a fight, now had ______ punishment and they needed to come get them" and not mention that they had injuries that needed stitches and had blood running down their faces (more than one girl had her earrings ripped from her ears because the cheerleader either was wearing a similar pair or wanted them (and got to keep them because we don't argue with them because they said that the "nobody" "stole them from her" so the "nobody" lost even if they could prove they bought it with a receipt). Band isn't fun when you have lost over half your band and you are constantly looking over your shoulder because of the "you might be next" thought. Luckily, I am short enough and quiet enough that I was never noticed when the "bad nobody students caused problems" for the "good, star, worth something students". I hated my school and their "sports and cheerleaders are holier than thou" attitude.
You did the right thing 100% op. I would have the same thing, but in the head
You grow up being told that there is justice in the world but there isn't. Not just with school bullies, police and courts of law won't protect and serve you either. It's unfortunate but life is cruel that way.

You may have gotten suspended, but he now know what you can and will do. Don't see this entirely as a problem, as it may have been your solution.
Screw the school as long as your not in trouble at home consider it a win
