Today, I finally worked up the courage to play my friends the demo CD that I've spent all summer recording. I didn't tell them it was me. Not even 10 seconds into the first song, my best friend asked me to turn it off because it sucked. FML

Today, I finally released my first music album. I dropped out of college to pay for it after my friends who liked my music urged me to. They keep telling me how much they love the CD. I've only sold one copy. Turns out they put it on a sharing site so only one of them would have to buy it. FML

Today, I was playing songs at a funeral in my church. As the organ wasn't in tune I had to use an electronic piano instead. All was going well until in the end of a speech, I accidentally hit the 'demo' button. None of the grieving relatives were impressed by my drum beats and turntable scratches. FML

Today, I was listening to music, talking to a boy I like on MSN. He asked if I could share the song I was listening to, so I did. It wasn't until I had shared and fully transferred it did I realise it was actually the fake radio show I record on my own, in a phoney Australian accent. All 6 minutes of it. FML

First off OP, don't get your hopes down. Your friend may just be completely off to music. Tell him to play you a melodic minor scale in the key of D. As for the music, all these losers commenting probably listen to the talentless pile of garbage that recycles through the radio. They probably have no idea what the difference between a diminished or an augmented chord.

I agree that the friend may just have no taste in music. But you're a judgemental, elitist jerk if you think anybody has to study music theory or be able to play an instrument before they're able to discern good music from bad. I've studied music theory and played five instruments, but it didn't really change my ability to decide whether I like any given song.

being able to tell an augmented chord by ear or play a certain scale by heart has nothing to do with deciding what's good and bad. even with that screamo death metal garbage there is a clear distinction between crap and good music, and I don't think they are playing any actual chords

that really sucks. it took me over 8 months though to just be able to put out iTunes worthy music, and that was with working nonstop. don't give up, you'll get it eventually.

Cheer up! Your friends didnt even no it was you, which if they did, they definatly would not have said your song sucked. You worked really hard on it, and i guess it was a good thing you got an honest opinion.
