I can't decide whether YDI or FYL, OP. On one hand, you should have asked around if the cat belonged to anyone. On the other, I'm happy you were willing to take in what you thought was a stray and give it a home. I recently found out that the kitten I had when I was 10 that went missing has been across the street this whole time.

I hate cat owners who let their animals out on other peoples property. I choose not to have pets because I don't want their shit and piss in my garden where I grow food and let my kids Play. Most of all I don't want your cat stuck under the roof of my car or crushed under my tires.
