Today, I found out that my cat, that I've had for 3 years, is actually my neighbor's missing cat. FML

that's an awkward conversation. at least the kitty was in safe hands and very close.

Rule #1 when finding a stray cat in your neighborhood: go and see if it belongs to anyone. Hope you guys can work something out. Good luck.

I hope the owner does the right thing and lets you keep the cat, since after 3 years you and kitty probably are pretty attached.

I see custody battle on the harizan. Hire a good divorce lawyer.

I can honestly say I've had this happen. And she is still ours.

I'd say its your cat now. you've been taking care of him/her for three years. its yours

You should keep it, it doesn't deserve to go back to an owner who treats it poorly enough to be lost and not try to find it for 3 years

After 3 years its hard to belive your animal is still alive by itself...They probally thought it was dead or found by a shelter/pound

Maybe OP doesn't allow the cat to be outside. Anyway, a lot of cats happen to look alike. I found out my kitten that went missing when I was 10 (I'm now 17) has been at my neighbor's the whole time. The neighbor probably assumed that after three years the cat definitely wouldn't be back, and gave up search.

The cat must like you more if it stayed with you for three years.

This is so wierd! I just figured out MY neighbor has had my cat for 3 years and i never noticed!

At least they didn't call her name. Also an awkward conversation
