At least you took care of him/her and kept the cat safe. You didn't know whose cat it was but you made sure that he/she got the love and care they deserved. That's all that matters.

That's pretty suckish but I hope you do the right thing and return the cat to their original owner. The cat may mean a lot to you but can you imagine how upset you would be if you were in their shoes? As long as the car would be returning to a loving home that is.

I think this depends on where you got the cat. If you adopted it from a shelter, then FYL. If you just found it, assumed it was a stray, and took it in, then YDI for not making an attempt to find its actual owner
