Today, I got a job at a casino where I was actually planning on spending my 21st birthday next month. After they hired me, they told me no employees are allowed to play or gamble on or off the clock, for as long as they are employed there, or termination will immediately follow. FML

Congratulations on the job! I know it sucks that you can't gamble there anymore, but think about it this way - you've scored yourself consistent employment and are saving yourself from blowing all of your money. Is there another casino near that one where you can celebrate by any chance?

Be happy you don't live in Pennsylvania. My mother works at a casino in town and she isn't allowed to gamble at any casino in the entire state.

They do this to ensure that the patrons don't see you and think the house is cheating. Most people know that the odds are in the houses favor, but if the patrons see employees gambling, even off the clock there's the image that the house is making sure it stays on top and that nobody can win outside the house. My dad used to be a security guard for a casino, and that was the rule as well, employees weren't allowed to gamble at the site they work at.

well gambling is bad so just dont do it.

Better to have a job and make money. Then lose it at the casino. Buy yourself something nice for your birthday instead.

I worked for a major hotel casino that owned half the strip In Vegas and we were allowed to gamble, we got huge discounts on the restaurants and everything else.

I used to work for Konami, and we weren't allowed to take winnings from any Konami machines. Just go to another casino.

So be it. Go somewhere else if they're willing to piss away business like that

You can still have the party, you just can't gamble or stand near the gaming areas or have anyone bet on your behalf- I hope you haven't booked anything out yet. Also it's pretty common knowledge that employees are not permitted to gamble at the casino they work at, even if they don't work there as a croupier

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention another contributing factor to the rule, other than the cheating one. More specifically, gambling addiction. Common, dangerous, hidden relatively easily. An employee with an addiction could do some major damage.

You can't work in a casino if you're not 21

Congratulations on the job! If this is the casino I have in mind (like the recently renamed one), you could always cross the boarder to Indiana and still have a rocking birthday!
