Today, I got a job selling knives. I had training for 11 hours. At the end of the training session, the instructor promptly informed everyone that they had to pay $145 for a set of demo knives. I paid the $145. I went home and learned that it was a scam. I went back for a refund. They said no. FML

That is just what I am saying though, it is a scam for the people who are not willing to work to make the money back that they spent on the sales kit. If they pay attention to the training, understand that it is hard work, and work their butts off to make it worth their while, then its not a scam. The people who are expecting to earn lots of money by putting in no effort, are the ones who are getting scammed, and if anything, its their own fault.

What makes you think that the people who do not earn the money back are putting in no effort? We live in a very rural area. There is virtually no market for this kind of product. No matter how many phone calls someone makes, the reality is they will book very few appointments and sell very little product. It's very narrow-minded of you to think that those people for whom this is a failed venture (and there are SO MANY which is why it is considered a scam) are not working hard. It's great that you are making money, but you are either the EXCEPTION or you are a SHILL for the company.

Those people called me 3 to 4 times. They said a girl I was never friends with had "highly recommended me." I knew about the scam side of it, so I told them I straight up wasn't interested. Three friends of mine got sucked in and stuck with $145 of knives that they couldn't sell. I also know one guy who makes quite a bit of money and his living through the company, but he is out of college. It just isn't practical for students.

Was that Cutco? It's a legit company, not a scam. I sold knives for them for a few weeks but my boss was a bitch so I quit. There is a lot of training and you have to buy the demo knives, but they're cheaper than you would buy from the catalog and they're really good knives. I did enough appointments and sold enough knives to end up getting the money from the knives back plus I made about $100.

Am AMAZED at the number of people who think this is a scam. A friend of mine made $2000 last week. I used to do it. You get out of it what you put in. Oh, and FYI, the "knife kit" is 100% refundable and I know from personal experience it is NOT door-to-door. So mostly, you are a moron for having gone through 11 hrs of training and not picking that one up.

See.....vector scams so much money off people they have enough money to pay a PR employee to watch internet forums and protect their brand. You people are LOSERS for taking advantage of people like this, truly the lowest of the low. At least get a high class scam like insider trading Martha Stewart style (kidding...i love shareholders). VECTOR IS A HUGE SCAM, IF YOU BELIEVE THEIR SHIT YOU ARE AN IDIOT...PERIOD!

In what way do they scam? You pay for a kit. If you don't want it, you return it.

I got hired for that place too, and the second they started talking about buying your starter kit I knew it was a scam. YDI for not being able to realize that, too.

YDI. Consider it a learning experience. Unless, like some other comments indicate, it's NOT a scam - then still YDI but only if you don't take advantage of it.

If the company that did this to you is the one I think it is, then they scammed me too. I didn't take the job, but they got enough info out of me to get into my bank account and steal $64 from me. Twice. I empathize.

VECTOR!!!! my friends got scammed with that. and I was on my way there when i found out it was a scam. good luck selling those knives!

Gasp. Vector! I didnt buy the knife set right then, I went to class the next day and told one of my teachers all about it and she made me drop it. She pointed out that it is such a huge scam. They lure you in with this like $16/hour job and that it's super easy to climb up when **** no, it really isnt. And they only pay you an hour for every consultation, not the time it takes to get there or how long it takes you to arrange it.
