Today, I got a job selling knives. I had training for 11 hours. At the end of the training session, the instructor promptly informed everyone that they had to pay $145 for a set of demo knives. I paid the $145. I went home and learned that it was a scam. I went back for a refund. They said no. FML

I actually went for the job interview here 3 days ago. I got hired on on the spot and this girl seemed wayyyy too well rehearsed and that's what threw me.. I just didn't show up for the UNPAID training.

ummm...your supposed to get paid to learn. even if its a training shift

They don't have to pay you for the training because you're officially not an employee, you're an independent contractor. It's pretty much the same situation as Avon.

Vector targets recent high school grads and current college students in need of a summer job. Chances are the OP is enrolled in college right now. "shoulda went to college"? Looks like it's you who SHOULD HAVE GONE to college.

I actually made about 6 grand over the course of the summer selling those knives. Worked my ass off though and my school ended up deciding that since I had 6000 more then I was supposed to they would just take it. It is pretty much designed as something of a scam though, the managers rely on high turnover since they make the most profit in the first couple weeks of a persons employment. You start of making 10% of what you sell and they get 40%. After you sell a certain amount you get 50% and they get very little. They also kind of make you take advantage of your friends and family, but everyone that I sold to still loves their knives, so it's not like you're ripping them off. Anyway, if anything the $145 isn't the scam, you can make that back in a week. The scam would be the part where your friends and family guiltily buy from you.

Most of the people that do this are college kids who need a summer job.

Thats not how it works. Dont be a liar and make Vector look bad.

I got the same letter for Vector, and in regards to all of the people here who said "LOL DO YOUR RESEARCH" I did do my research, but that doesn't mean I only looked at the websites that said it was a scam. I looked at both sides, and I decided to give it a shot. Not only did I make back the $145 in the first two days, I made a very decent income for the rest of the summer. If you're willing to put in some effort, you can come out with a nice amount of cash, but it's certainly not something you can half-ass and expect to be good at. Plus, I actually used the starter kit they had us buy. They ARE high quality knives, you're not getting nothing for the money.

OMG I had the same thing happen, it was cutco right?? I spent 2 days in training and then couldn't afford the knives, so glad that I couldn't

These comments are ******* hilarious. Half are from people that say they lost money to a scam, and the other people are saying what a great scam it is and how much money they made.
