Today, I got a letter in the mail telling me to report for jury duty. The day that I have to show up is the day of my wedding. FML

There are a million ways to get out of jury duty if push comes to shove just say you're racist...Even better if it's your own race so you got a little crazy going for you too haha

Ditch it. Wedding is more important

I got out of jury duty because I had class that week. You just need to call them and explain its your wedding. They'll probably delay it for a few months but then you can try to weasel your way out of it or do your civic duty.

Most jurisdictions allow you to defer jury duty for a few months. The summons should detail how to do it. Congratulations on the engagement!

Get a bigger wedding cake. It seems there will be at least another extra 20 guests or so

You can reschedule, you may still have to go to the courthouse that morning, though. I'd rather have teeth pulled than have jury duty, sorry you got picked!

You likely won't have to even go in, but make sure to ask.

After living in a town for ten years, I got summoned.....for the week I was moving out of state. Fortunately they were reasonable.

You're getting married on a Tuesday? Because surely there's no jury duty on a weekend.

If you're in the UK you can defer it for a maximum of a year. They will just give you a later date on a different trial. The two main reasons you can defer is if you have a holiday booked or surgery. I assume you have a honeymoon so you should be able to defer no problem.

If you paid attention to the FML, it says underneath that she's from Virginia, US.

everyone gets on free exemption a year, there should be a number on your summons you can call.

Depending on the crime and state, the defendant has the ability to have a trial by a jury of peers. It is supposed to give the defendant more even footing by being judged by common people. It was set up so people would not be prosecuted/ persecuted unjustly.

Let's see.... pissed off bride or pissed off government - which is scarier and more ruthless to where Lucifer himself will go "That's freaking insane! Holy crap they do that??"? hmmmmmmm...... I vote you ditch jury duty and go to your wedding.

Or they could just read the notice in full, and follow the directions for rescheduling.

Ditching jury duty is illegal. But quite easy to file for exempt especially for a wedding.
