OP here. I didn't expect it to be noted as a medical bracelet substitute. It's very artsy and colourful; it also has a date underneath so I didn't expect people to think it was due to an illness.

Bahahahahahahhaha!
Sounds like you should get another tattoo underneath that one that says, "Anyone ignorant enough to think this is a medical bracelet doesn't deserve an explanation." Then any time someone asks, you can just point to your wrist for the answer.
...or, you could just explain it to them. That works too. But how do a snake and staff end up looking anything like a medical bracelet? Sounds like the tattoo artist wasn't very...artistic.
The caduceus (snake and staff) is present on medical alert bracelets so everyone knows it's not just a piece of personal jewelry. I'm a nurse-I want to have "DNR" tattooed across my chest when I make that decision, just so there's absolutely no confusion.
As a nurse I'm sure that you know that a tattoo isn't legally binding. You could have changed your mind since getting the tattoo. Legal paperwork and letting your family know your wishes is the only correct way to do it.
Possibly because they already have tattoos there, or don't want any there. The beauty of a tattoo is that one can get it whereever they goddamn well want to.
128-As far as I'm concerned, a trauma surgeon is a professional job.

Just explain it. After a while all your friends will know. And it's always some conversation starter; at least you have something interesting to say after this question.
I respect the idea, I'm going to school as a paramedic and I plan on doing the same type if tattoo on my side
You do have an illness: Trendyitis hipstericus, a mass psychological disorder where people permanently alter their bodies in a futile attempt to seem cool. Just learn the lyrics to all of Nikki Minaj's songs and you'll be fine.
and this is why you are considered ignorant to anyone over the age of 18.

well since the tattoo signifies so much meaning to you, then you'll hopefully have no regrets. it just seems that misconception of others will live you the rest of your life. just something you gotta deal with, but I'm sure the tattoo was worth it in the end.
