Today, I got back from a service trip to Kenya, where I had no running water or electricity. I encouraged my friends to go green and help raise awareness by conserving as much electricity as possible. I return home to find that all my lights have been on for 2 weeks. FML

Today, there was a power outage at my apartment. I ended up deciding that the power wasn't going to come on any time soon, and that I should go to a hotel for the night. Just after I unpacked at the hotel, my neighbor called to say the power had come back. FML

Today, the power in my village went out. This caused the back-up battery powered alarm to go off. Nobody in the house even knew our alarm worked, let alone how to make it stop. It's been going off for over an hour now. FML

Today, I arrived at the kennels I work in to find the power disconnected and the water pump off. This meant I had to bucket water and carry it to keep over sixty assorted dogs and cats alive in temperatures over 90 degrees. The moment I finished, the power came back on. FML

So I waited for it to come back on, until an announcement came over the fire alarm, "Due to generating failure, the power will be off for the rest of the night. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, and have a good night." FML

No one is perfect, and just because someone is an enironmentalist doesn't mean they want you to revert to prehistoric technology, they just want you to be aware of your impact and save where you can. What is so wrong about that? Why is it that the people who try to improve the way the world works are the ones who get the bad rap all the time? OP, you're not a hypocrite, just human.

XD The obvious remark would be that you're a dumbass for forgetting to turn off your lights, but I've done the same before (although never for longer than a day), so I'll let it slide. Still, that'll teach you to double- and triple-check things before you go on trips, right? So, how much is your electricity bill this month? :P

Keep it up though! Until we become aware as a global society and start using sustainable energy that is not harmful to the environment you should be encouraging everyone to be green! Every little bit helps and I for one still want to be able to enjoy planet Earth in 60 Years time!
