Today, I got demoted at my job. Instead of working with patients, they want me to file. The thing is, I'm a volunteer; I work for them for free. FML

I'm suprised you actually had time with patients. Usually the volunteers are strictly paperwork and receptionists.

Maybe they don't like how you work with the patients. You should ask for an explanation of why they moved you. But look on the bright side - at least you're making the same amount of money. You're still volunteering and doing good work, it's just different good work.

If you don't like it then quit. They're not paying you so enjoyment is your only reason to stay.

So you didn't get demoted. Volunteers don't get to pick where they volunteer, they fill in where the place needs them.
