Today, I got my car back from the shop. The engine has been rebuilt twice in the past 3 months. My check engine light just came on. FML

Funny that someone commented on the VW. I finished a long battle with VW that ended up with them buying the lemon back (was new). I lost money in the whole fiasco but at least I don't feel like I could die at any moment on the road (kept inexplicably intermittently losing power... Like a mini-stall lasting a second or so). There are people who love their VW and would swear by them. I am not of that persuasion...

yeah we had a similar situation. it was new yet it always stalled. I don't know how many time it just stopped. on the highway. we got fed up and sold it to an unexpecting person lolololol.

43--you are honestly a terrible person

43 sucks. Hopefully the car only stalled because of her horrible karma and will run exceptionally well for the new owner.

OP, it could be you mechanic sold you a more expensive repair than you needed. There are very few engine problems that require you to rebuild an engine. I would take it to another mechanic for a second opinion.

i wanted to say YDI for owning a car, but then I realized you live in that bus-less country :/

There are busses in the cities, but they often don't run far enough to get to where people need to go, or enough hours to even get you to and from work. I used to live in California and am now back in my native Canada, and still have the same problem, I start a sixteen hour shift at 3am and the only bus that runs into the industrial park where I work only runs from 600 until 2230. But up here waitin for the bus sucks, standing around in -30 weather for them to show up is never fun.

She lives in Denver, where there are some busses and definitely plenty of taxis. Also, ydi for having a car? You sir, are an idiot.

When the check engine light is on, you could hook it up to one of those code reading machines. This will narrow down what the problem is. It could be something as simple as a stripped spark plug.

it must be a ford or some thing american....:D i trust in Japanese :D

toyotas and hondas are beast. my sister and her bf both have old ass camrys with intense mileage and they still work like a charm. my 96 civic has 267 100km and works like new.

Must be. Hondas flux capacitor has a terrible reliability rating...
